Benefits Committee
1272006_102115_0.png

The Teachers’ Benefits Committee includes the Membership Services Officer and an elected representative from each OSSTF branch in a high school or site. The committee chooses a chair annually and the chair is in charge of directing the committee meetings; the committee also chooses a member to sit on the joint OSSTF/OCDSB Benefits Review committee. The Benefits Committee meets five or six times a year.

The Benefits Committee is responsible for reviewing annually the teachers’ LTD claims and financial experience, recommending the renewal of the LTD policy and premiums, and coordinating the LTD Flex Plan renewals for teachers in their schools every three years. The Benefits Committee discusses health and safety issues such as environmental sensitivities, and makes recommendations to the joint OSSTF/OCDSB Health and Safety committee for resolving issues. Information is shared on new legislation concerning medical leaves and health care programs. School representatives bring their school concerns to the meeting and the committee is involved in finding solutions. Certification updates are shared with the committee as are any changes proposed to the teachers’ pension plan.

The Benefits Committee offers a variety of workshops on health benefits, financial planning, health and safety, and retirement.
