For over 80 years, members of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF) have promoted and defended quality education in Ontario.

With a membership of more than 50,000 caring individuals, that commitment is stronger than ever.

"Let us not take thought for our separate interests, but let us help one another."

Discrimination Case Against First Nations Children
On February 27, 2007, the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) and the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada (FNCFCS) made a formal complaint to the Canadian Human Rights Commission for its current treatment of First Nations children. The complaint alleges that the Government of Canada provides less government funding for child welfare services to First Nations children on reserves than is provided to non-Aboriginal children.

In October 2008, the Canadian Human Rights Commission ordered a tribunal to determine whether or not discrimination had occurred pursuant to the Canadian Human Rights Act. Ottawa has postponed the hearings twice in the hopes of having them dismissed.

We encourage members to sign up to the "I am a witness" campaign. Make your voice for First Nations children heard. We also suggest writing to Prime Minister Harper asking him to withdraw the current dismissal motion and to allow the tribunal to do its job.
